Some of my best pieces
Kaya made many collages. Some of them were amazing. Each one took hours to make. Starting with the initial images, the cutting, and then she wove together the images for the final effect. It was a process of seeing the whole, the parts, and then an abstract compilation of unrelated parts making a new whole.
“I had a suitcase full of collages when I moved to Berlin. I was hoping to find a gallery to display them. The suitcase had all of my favorite pieces, and someone stole them from a cafe when I stepped outside for a cigarette.”
Maybe one day, if they ever resurface, the originals might be worth some money. Much like many artists and bright lights, their work becomes canonized by the mystery of the artists’ disappearance.
